The content is concise and preciously worthwhile as the presentation style is pleasant and at times even humorous. The author and the publishers should be thanked for finding the fun in engineering.

Best book I have come across on the subject. Obviously written by one of those rare authors who take both the subject and the reader seriously. Recommended for anyone who wants to be able to build interesting stuff almost right from the start.

covers a lot of material; full of errors

I purchased this book as it was required for a class. The book presents a lot of material and a lot of very practical considerations. At first glance, it seems like a very good resource because of all the topics it covers and integrates in the exercises.

That said, I've only read portions of five chapters and have found numerous rather conspicuous errors in both the text and the exercise sets. Some errors involve misrepresentation of k-map covers and demorgan's law; others in the exercise sets aren't so blatantly obvious. If i hadn't already covered this material in classes years ago, i'd certainly be confused. If you need to buy this book for a class, keep this hazard in mind if you ever get stumped.

About the Author
Ann B. Dobie is Professor Emerita of English at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she directed graduate studies in rhetoric and the university's writing-across-the-curriculum program. She is the author or coauthor of six college writing textbooks, compiler and editor of three literary anthologies, and author of numerous articles on literature and composition. Her latest books are WIDE AWAKE IN THE PELICAN STATE: CONTEMPORARY LOUISIANA STORIES (available in 2007) and FIFTY-EIGHT DAYS IN THE CAJUNDOME SHELTER, which will be available in early 2008. For 13 years, she served as director of the National Writing Project of Acadiana. She is now State Coordinator of the Louisiana Writing Project and a consultant to the National Writing Project.

Excellent tool for Literary Criticism

If you intend to write a literary criticism using any of those detailed in this book, I highly recommend this as a guide of what questions to consider, and how to write the criticism in general. Extremely detailed, and with a large quantity of quality information. I read a lot, and this is only the second book review I've done, for I feel people should be aware what this can do for them.

It is an excellent book that summarises literature theories in an understandable manner. It also provides example essays and readings to help you put the theories into practice. This book was of great value and is a great intoduction to literary criticism. I would reccommend it to anyone curious about the different methods involving literary criticism.

The latest identification guide to commercial aircraft

Many identification guides have been written concerning commercial aircraft, but this field guide is the latest in my memory that features the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the new Bombardier CSeries regional jet. I like how the writer provided concise specifications and 3-view illustrations of each aircraft.

Where is the Convair?

This book is nicely laid out with photos and drawings, but as an historic review of the world's major commercial airliners, it neglects to include the Consolidated Convair series of airliners (240/340/440). This significant airliner basically replaced the DC-3 for short haul work and was purchased and used extensively by virtually every major US airline and most of the major European carriers. A book of this type cannot fail to include this important airliner in the history of commercial aviation. In addition, the authors include the Russian supersonic airliner, which hardly flew and never made a mark on civil aviation history.

It's tough to be devout and kitschy at the same time, but Colleen McDannell strikes that delicate balance with admirable poise in Material Christianity: Religion and Popular Culture in America. Her book is an argument that "American Christians ... want to see, hear, and touch God. It is not enough for Christians to go to church, lead a righteous life, and hope for an eventual place in heaven." This argument is amply defended by smart essays about family Bibles, gravestone design, and Lourdes Water, as well as hundreds of illustrations of vestments, churches, portraits of Jesus, rapture T-shirts, and backyard statues of Our Lady. Where Material Christianity gets really interesting, however, is in its assertion that "Christian material culture does not simply reflect an existing reality. Experiencing the physical dimension of religion helps bring about religious values, norms, behaviors, and attitudes." For example, the warmth and intimacy of Warner Sallman's painting "Head of Christ," which hung in almost every Protestant Sunday School classroom in America until the 1960s, was probably every bit as influential as any given phrase from the Sermon on the Mount in determining the personal nature of Protestants' relationships with Jesus.
