suspenceful

I just finished reading this and had to write this review on this book. This book was even more suspenseful than the first one. I knew some of the things had to happen in this book. I knew Trevor would find her and it was not going to be good. I loved her courage. I bought this after I finished reading the first book. At first I wasn't going to and pick a book I already had but as. I read the last sentence I didn't waste anytime a couple minutes later I was reading this book because I had to find out how the story ends and what would happen to Trevor. I like this book a little better than the first. If you got the first story about Lily then spend the money and get this one also. I'm glad I did or I would be thinking for a long time what happened.

Absolutely nothing inappropriate

This review is actually for this book and its predecessor, He Loves Me Not. The author doesn't have a great writing style and the characters lack dimension but she does have a really good idea of how difficult it can be to escape from an abusive relationship; I know because it took me 18 years to get out of mine. The conflicting emotions that the heroine experiences are true to life. People who have never been victims of abuse often find it difficult to understand what makes it so hard to leave and once you do leave, why it's so hard to not go back and the author manages to capture, in a small way, those particular emotional conflicts. The heroine, in my opinion had things much too easy. She doesn't suffer from financial difficulties which makes her escape much simpler. Most abuse victims don't have the luxury of their own vehicle or a nice fat $100k bank account to live on, nor the luxury of being able to sell a deceased parent's home to add to that bank account. I had to laugh a little when Lily/Kate effortlessly drove away from Reno with no fear of running out of gas money, forked out money to rent a home, walked into a Doctor's Office and paid cash for her appointments and casually stopped by Wal-Mart to purchase a brand new crib and baby clothes...if only it was really that easy! They're not terrible books, but they're not great either. They're easy reads, and it only took me a few hours to get through each of them, although I never had a problem putting either of them down. I'll probably read more from this author because her books are inexpensive and have absolutely no profanity or inappropriate sexual passages and that is refreshing. These would probably be good books for older teenage girls to read to teach them to pay attention to the red flags they will most certainly see when they are dating.

The main character Lilly/Katy never grows. Keeps making stupid decisions that puts her child at risk. Wish I hadn't wasted my money giving this writer second chance.

Leonardo da Vinci is recognized as the quintessential Renaissance Man. A great painter, he was equally prodigious in the fields of architecture, engineering, anatomy, and physical science.

H. Anna Suh has a master's degree in art and archaeology from Princeton University. She was on the curatorial staff of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and has worked on projects for scholarly publications at the Met, New York University's Institute of Fine Arts, the Princeton University Art Museum, and Harvard University. A Sensitively Tailored Version of the da Vinci Notebooks

Though there are other publications that include the entire series of notebooks maintained as a diary of thoughts and concepts, puzzles, dreams and creative ideas by the great Leonardo da Vinci, this publication under the astute editorship of H. Anna Suh condenses the notebooks, focusing on most of the truly profound writings of the artist. The quality of production in transposing old paper to new is excellent with respectful use of sepia tone and black and white reproductions that make the book eminently readable.

da Vinci's Notebooks contain some of the more far-reaching thinking of his day, ideas about flight, acoustics, astronomy, and architecture that weren't completely realized for centuries after his death. These are the notes of a genuine genius, a man who not only understood his art but also understood anatomy on a scientific level far beyond the scientists of his time.

But all of this is merely fact and information we have all known for a long time. The reason for recommending this particular volume is the quality of illustration control, the footnotes, the capable translations of da Vinci's notes, and the generous manner in which the material is laid out on the page. This is not only, then, an important book exploring da Vinci's history and mind, it is also an homage to the master's drawing, philosophy, and genteel brain that dared to explore areas of thought long before others attempted. Yet another unfortunate truncation of Leonardo's notebooks

It is possible, with only a few pages from Leonardo Da Vinci's many notebooks, to do away with all other books on the subject of information design. In this way, if you plan to "learn so you can practice," this book or any other book on Leonardo's notebooks will not only be sufficient but will outclass everything else.

If you want a book specifically about Leonardo's notebooks, however, this book is all-too truncated. There simply aren't enough representations of his work to really "dig in" and see how he was able to cross intellectual barriers while retaining the same perspective. You'll get a handful of examples, and if you bought any of dozen or so similar books you'll mostly see the same examples repeated in each one.

My recommendation to anyone wanting a semi-thorough collection (for no full collection exists to my knowledge) is to hunt around your local antique and used book stores. I was able to acquire a massive volume of Leonardo's works, called simply Leonardo Da Vinci (published in 1956 by Reynal & Company) which has around 1,500 examples of notebook pages and various sketches along with essays and descriptions in each of the major fields (human and animal anatomy and physiology, warfare, engineering, structures, and more). It cost about twice as much as a modern collection (such as this one) and is many, many times more thorough. I only wish such thoroughness was more readily available and didn't require months of searching.

In all, this book (which I gifted to a friend who didn't ask as much of it as I did) is worthwhile if you only need a glance at Leonardo's notebooks. If you want to take a good look, you'll need to do so elsewhere.

Terrible, disappointing at best

I bought this for the Kindle app on my iPad 3 device expecting to see the illustrations I saw in the soft cover book I found with the same name at a museum store. What I expected and what I received are two different things. None of the cool diagrams in the printed book are present in this version of the book for the Kindle app on the iPad. It's really a false statement to say this kindle book is illustrated.

I LOVED this book

I LOVED this book! You know how you buy a book, thinking that it's going to help you do this, that, or the other? But all you get is more stuff to do because you haven't done enough already? And then you just have more stuff to do because you've already read a hundred books on the same subject? THIS BOOK ISN'T LIKE THAT! These authors empower you based on what you already have and who you already are! The authors take the long-held beliefs of "how-to-get-from-here-to-there" and pretty much turn it upside down. They show how we are capable of accomplishing "goals" and milestones, not from a cookbook approach which has been written, espoused and preached about endlessly, but rather from the view of allowing your God-given talents to break free from self-imposed restrictions. Your passions are evident, if you will just allow them to flow from a position of strength, rather than a view that you are lacking in some area or other. They show how you can actually TRUST yourself to be your biggest advocate - but from a view that we are made to be significant on this Earth by One who plants His significance in us. I highly recommend it.

Warning: ONLY READ THIS BOOK IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN CHANGING YOUR LIFE

Meeting Joshua and Jamie changed the trajectory of my life. As an inexperienced coach, I found myself measuring success based on comparisons to others, meeting goals, and shooting low scores. After many conversations, face to face sit downs, and reading this book, I feel more equipped to influence lives of those around me. I now realize the importance of keeping "first things first" and their definition of true mental toughness. Once I adopted the idea that everything that happens to me is in my best interest and an opportunity to learn and grow, I was able see things from a different perspective.

Throughout the book, Joshua and Jamie share stories and strategies that can change your life. I love how they give you questions to reflect upon and journal about. This is not a book you read through quickly, toss on a shelf, and forget about in a week. I have been referring to it since I received my personalized copy from two men who it am blessed to call friends.

Be warned. This book will change you forever. I am not falling in love with the process of becoming great. You will too!

Wait... what?

I love the idea of a cookbook for teens. I love the idea of them cooking and me complaining about the food instead of the other way around. So I was eager to preview the cookbook.
Mistake 1: Teens jump in. They are not going to read the first 2 instructional chapters.
Mistake 2: Since they didn’t read the first 2 chapters, they need more guidance with the recipes. When you say sauté, put the definition of sauté in a box to the right of the recipe.
Mistake 3: They don’t want to make Leeky Chicken or Coconut & Curry Soup. They want to make Mac & Cheese and Quesadillas.
Mistake 4: There is no glossary of cooking terms. ?!@
This cookbook is a recipe for disaster - that you'll have to clean up.

All of the Bases for a Teenage Cook

I'm a teen who knows my way around the kitchen (at least decently so!) and I've tried two recipes out of this book. I'm a fan of their recipes for a one person for dinner, most of which don't require a whole lot of prep. I made "White Angel Hair" which had a delicious creamy and cheesy sauce. One of my girlfriends and I doubled it and had it for dinner-- it hit the spot. As someone who has done her fair share of cooking, this wasn't a challenging recipe, but it's helpful to have the proportions for spice and cheese. I also went for the chocolate chip cookie recipe. Mmmm :) This would be good for teens who are working their way up to cooking for themselves, especially because it gives you some pointers on shopping, such as how to keep your cost down. I'm not sold on the way it sneaks in whole wheat flour and vegetables for some recipes, but since I'd probably use them anyways, it's proooobably not a bad idea.

Bonus: This book has a full-blown glossary of cooking terms and conversions, as well as a thorough list of required cooking equipment.

For teens who want to cook, this is a great starting point

The beginning of the book has some great information on cooking terms and tools; however, it was almost too much information for a novice to absorb. There were many easy recipes, but most of them seemed to have a lot of ingredients, which might be overwhelming for a beginner or teenager. What I loved about the book is the great job it did teaching versatility in cooking--that you can interchange ingredients to suit your tastes and can substitute items with what you have on hand. Overall, I’d recommend this book for any teenager who has an interest in learning to cook.

What's wrong with the art of homemaking and being a loving wife?

Marabel Morgan wrote this advice book in 1972, around the time when one wave of the women's movement was cresting. There's a light smattering of quotes from biblical scripture, then it goes on to four parts. Organization Woman (Part I) takes the Charles M Schwab's $25,000 plan (prioritize your tasks) and lays out a plan for any women to get things done on time. Man Alive (Part II) looks at the delicate male ego and what a wife can do to restore it. Sex 201 (Part III) is about keeping the spice alive. Building Bridges (Part IV) shows how interaction within the family unit can influence children.

Books like this will always garner the venom and knee-jerk reactions from a particular segment of women. Even before they read the book, these same people will drag out economic inequality, oppression of women as homemakers, doormat policies all leading inevitably up to domestic violence. NOWHERE in this book does the author promote ANY of these ideas. What the book does do is to advise women who have ended up - either by choice or by circumstances - in the home on how to make the best of it. To excel in homemaking; to provide a nice place to return to; to look after and support your husband; to realize that in marriage, giving in is as important as taking; to show love to your children. Is all this really that bad?

Sure, there's the danger of the marriage going south and a wife ending up in the shoes of Terry Hekker. But that's a danger in any marriage. So why not start making lemonade?

I'm willing to bet that if the roles were reversed and all the advice was written for husbands...and the wife became the recipient of the attentive husband, this book would immediately be hailed as a must-read for all men.

Any advice book should be approached the way we treat high fashion: Take what you can use, water it down a little, and keep the rest in the back of the closet. No one can be expected to walk around in Saran Wrap to keep the hubby sexually enchanted, but rotating sexual turn-ons and outfits to keep the spark alive is a definite keeper.

I know this book experienced some raised eyebrows from the religious community when it came out, particularly the chapters concerning sex. Because we women having forgotten how to blush, we've had to rely on some unsubstantiated myth to hold on to our men. Miss Morgan shows that we need to put solid hard work into it. A marriage can stay together on conceptual ties like mutual respect, joint returns, and prenups, but heavens how boring it would all be! Still you could apply all that in addition to the advice given in this book. I would think any woman would want to have all the tools at her disposal.

Like Helen Andelin's book Fascinating Womanhood, the focus on men's fragile ego is a priceless piece of advice. I want to say if one were a fly-on-the-wall in a room where men are talking alone... but then I remembered, men rarely talk about their feelings. But compliment and admire any man, and you immediately see the gratitude in their eyes.

In this day and age when so many of us are complaining about how men are no longer men....Miss Morgan gives you the keys here. If men are no longer men, it's because WE are no longer women.

If You Can't Do It All, Start With Trying a Few

Marabel Morgan's advice was like a breath of fresh air. Feeling completely suffocated by a new marriage, a new baby, and no living mother to draw advice from, I needed to hear the message of this book. It doesn't advise women to be doormats. In fact, one of the most impowering section of the book spoke of being as organized as a multi-million dollar company. Stay-at-home moms and wives have tremendous responsibilties that often our society ignores. Accountant, housekeeper, cook, childcare worker, errand runner...a complete balancing act. And yes, your husband does want to come home to a loving wife and a sexy partner. Okay, you don't have to be a greeting Playboy bunny at the door and the Bible does not promote breast augmentation, but the idea of pleasing your mate is a privilage. Because you're organized and stay at home during the day to take care of business there, your family will have time in the evening to bond. Skip the idea of manipulating. Mrs. Morgan doesn't teach that. She simply shares that you will reap benefits naturally because you're more pleasant to live with. Read the book. I loved its basic principles.

A LOTTA GOOD STUFF HERE, BUT...

Forty-years ago, I was given this book by my fiancé. He was using Marabel Morgan as a spokesperson for him and for what he expected in a wife. Since I had a Cinderella Complex already--waiting to be rescued by Prince Charming--I didn't object to the basic theme of her book: submit, serve, obey, and lots of sex...at first. But as time went on, he became his own spokesperson. We weren't even married yet, and I was not even coming close to meeting his expectations. I tried but I failed and the engagement ended.

I just reread The Total Woman. I wasn't that far along into the book before I wanted to throw it out the window, take it out back and burn it, stomp on it...anything to vent my anger. But, instead I kept reading, and then I realized something. The inspiration, motivation, and passion behind this book was for a good reason: helping couples save their marriages. With biblical direction and Christian values, Ms. Morgan wrote a comprehensive how-to book, which, over the years, has saved and enriched many marriages--marriages that were headed to divorce court.

I'm only going to comment on the parts of her book that I agree with--things in any relationship that are important for it to be healthy, rewarding, long-lasting, and of course, happy. I'm not going to comment on the parts that advocate serving his every whim, turning all control over to him, submitting to every desire, and being an obedient servant...I mean wife.

Page 38: "Do you know that your personal happiness depends on the attitude you decide you will have?"

Page 50: "A man needs to be accepted as he is..." and "I need to feel accepted, too."

Page 58: "...respect, honor, esteem, adore, praise, enjoy, and admire."

Skipping over the sex part. Not going to comment on "sexual intercourse every night of the week," or "spray your sheets with sweet cologne," or the part about greeting him at the door naked and wrapped in Saran wrap or pink baby-doll outfits and fuzzy boots or the part about having sex pretending to be "a pixie or a pirate, a cowgirl or a show girl." Nope! Not going there. Everyone knows that sex in important in a marriage.

Page 133: "A woman expresses her love by words and expects words in return. A man expresses his love by actions... ." And "Understanding the one you live with and love with gives such freedom." And "A husband and wife must communicate if they hope to understand each other. There is no greater feeling than knowing you are understood."

Page 134: "Be a good listener."

Page 136: "Don't criticize or put him down." Of course, that's a two-way street.

Page 138: "Be sensitive to his moods." Ditto on what I said above.

Page 139: "Be interested in his interests." This is good as long as it's not disingenuous and short-lived.

Page 142: "Before you speak, think the problem through and put it into its proper perspective. An angry outburst can scar your husband's emotions and create barriers between you."

It's important to note that Marabel Morgan is writing this book for women. It's instructions on how to keep your man happy so he won't stray and do the nasty-nasty with the bimbo at the office. She also has a chapter or two on how to raise well-adjusted and happy children.

A note here: Mrs. Morgan wrote this book from the perspective of an upper-middle-class housewife with a responsible and hard-working and caring husband. She lived in a world that was disconnected from so many other American households. She talks about "the office" as if every husband goes off to the office in a suit and tie and is tempted by pretty, seductive secretaries. What about the men who are slackers, men who don't hold up their end of the responsibility? What then...Marble...I mean Marabel?

My fiancé, who was a Christian man with high morals and "good intentions" wanted to provide me with a manual on how to be his perfect little sweet princess wife.

I can only thank Ms. Morgan, because if it had not been for The Total Woman (I could never, ever be that woman, by the way) I would have married the wrong man. It took several attempts at love--I had to realize that I didn't need rescuing; I am a smart, independent, capable woman. I eventually got it right. I have won the "Best Mate Lotto." Life is wonderful and, thank goodness, I don't have to wear that pirate outfit any more.

Where's My Aircar?

In the 1950s when I was an avid reader of science fiction, I assumed that by now we would all be flitting through the air in levitating antigravity aircars like those in "The Jetsons" and the Starwars films. What happened? Paul LaViolette tells us what happened. The technology that would make it all possible has been swept up by the military-industrial complex and locked away in a vault of intense secrecy.

A physicist by the name of Thomas Townsend Brown, began research on electrogravitics during the 1920s. His revolutionary work on gravity control made him an important man in the scientific world. He took out patents and developed numerous working models of antigravity machines which strongly resembled our popular images of flying saucers.

During World War 2 he was inducted into the US Navy to continue his research for military purposes. It appears likely that he was involved in the notorious Philadelphia Experiment as a result of which he was forced to resign. Complete records of his military service and the circumstances of his discharge are missing.

He continued his research efforts for various corporations and laboratories until his death in 1985 but he had apparently lost the military's full confidence and he received little if any government financing. Meanwhile, the military continued with their own gravity control projects as did many of the country's largest defense contractors. Although the details of their research were kept secret, they made no secret of the fact that such research was being conducted and that it would have a tremendous impact. That was true until the 1960s when the military clamped down the lid of total secrecy, apparently, because there had been a major breakthrough. All public discussion of such research came to an abrupt halt and electrogravitics was moved into the realm of "black technology".

The practical application of gravity control seems to based on the physics of subquantum kinetics as apposed to the "classical" but incompatible physics of general relativity and quantum mechanics. According to LaViollette, the theory of subquantum kinetics successfully overcomes many of the problems associated with "classical" theories. I am absolutely not qualified to have an opinion about this nor on the extensive mathematics that he offers by way of explanation. Judging by what's available on the internet, LaViolette has the field of subquantum kinetics pretty much to himself, which makes him a lone genius or a foolish crank. On the other hand, there don't seem to be many physicists out there who have bothered to refute LaViollette's theories. All I know is, this book doesn't read like the work of a fool or a crank.

Subquantum kinetics theory permits velocities at many multiples of the speed of light, something considered impossible under the theory of relativity. LaViolette explains how a superluminal spaceship might be powered using electrogravitic technology. It has been used by scientists and engineers (blessed with virtually unlimited funding and unhindered by concerns of conformity and "respectability" that permeate academic science) working on "black projects" since at least the 1950s.

According to LaViolette, the USAF's B-2 bomber seems to incorporate electrogravitic principles in its design and construction which give it performance capabilities, such as the ability to hover silently, that are never seen publicly. It would appear that most, if not all, unexplained UFO incidents involve terrestrial military research aircraft. Since military electrogravitic technology (assuming it exists) is shrouded in secrecy, there is no way of knowing one way or the other, but he makes a convincing case.

Nick Cook's "The Hunt for Zero Point" is a good book to read in conjunction with LaViollette's work. It is much less technical and mostly concerns his investigation into the world of black technology.

Given the current state of humanity, perhaps it's a good thing we don't all have aircars. Think of the problems. Humans would be free to do anywhere, spewing their pollution, garbage, destruction, and bombs at will. There would be no defense. Fences would be useless. The entire planet would soon look like a landfill or worse. I, for one, am willing to wait for intelligent life to appear on Earth before turning electrogravitics loose.

If it turns out that this book is generally correct then it will deserve 5 stars.

After years of working at DOE and reading all kinds of research on different aspects of physics, I have to compliment Paul LaViolette on an astounding book. Sometimes, you have to jump off the deep end and dive down into concepts that feel threatening and challenge everything you know. I am not done with this book...it will continue to make me think, dream, and theorize about these ideas for the rest of my life. NOBODY should take this material for granted. It will challenge you, excite you, make you want to cry, and ultimately, drive you to experiment on your own. I don't have to worry about the challenge I'm including in this review because if you've read this far, you have the stamina to go further. Take it on!

The Nuts & Bolts of the Gravity Mechanism

This has truly got to be the gold standard whereby all literature on the nonconventional or unorthodox views on gravity is gauged. I found that it is not only well and quite soberly written and gives every appearance of being thoroughly researched, but is easily comprehensible to anyone who has had at least second year college physics and the associated calculus and even at that there is actually very minimal advanced mathematics which, for those not familiar with vector calculus notation, can be skipped with little or no loss in continuity of discussion.

The main thesis here is that, as initially difficult to accept as it might seem, gravity and electrostatic force are in fact directly related to the extent that both electrostatic and gravitational force are gradient scalar field potentials
and more significantly that gravitational force between two masses can be either mutually repulsive or attractive in effect.....specifically, a positively charged proton produces a "well" in gravitational potential while the corresponding negatively charged electron allegedly creates a gravitational "hill" but much smaller because the electron has approximately 1 / 1840th of the inertial mass of the proton thusly accounting for the net effect of "attraction" between two electrically neutral physical masses. Certainly an intriguing concept even if as yet remaining to be proven "beyond any reasonable doubt and to a moral certainty" until an even more comprehensive theory should emerge.

Author Paul LaViolette also explores much of the personal history of Thomas Townsend Brown and his experimentation with the "electrokinetic thrust" device, the patent for which I have personally seen at the U.S. Patent Office in Sacramento and a full copy of which I have in my files from the Sunnyvale Patent Office Library. There is flatly no question whatsoever that the patent has very much always existed since originally issued...the question is whether the design actually does work as proposed and if so, what is the exact theory of operation and does it truly prove that the largely plagiarized so-called "Einstein" Theory of Gravitation (General Relativity) is either in grave error or must be radically modified or revised. The works of Charles Fort were not for those intimidated by the idea of thinking outside the box of conventional science and neither is this particular treatise...but for anyone considering himself to be of true intellectual courage and willing to impartially examine and ponder, even while not blindly accepting, a few offbeat concepts of gravity and a host of other fascinating material on antigrav and alternative propulsion that have been set forth throughout the last century, this is a must read.

As a final note, it was cited briefly in Max Born's benchmark compilation of atomic research in the first half of the 20th century, ATOMIK PHYSIK, that the brilliant German physicist, Artur Sommerfeld, had conceived of a "Quantum Theory of Gravitation" (1942), but the text did not go into any detail whatsoever other than mere mention of its existence.

Good book for a start....

Let me first start by saying there is no book by any publisher that is going to prepare you 100% for all the minutiae that are the MS exams. I just passed my 70-412 and there were two answer banks (multiple choice of same scenario but asking for different outcomes) straight from the 70-411 (as an example).

These books are very useful for getting you ~85% ready. You will still need hands on, labs (Microsoft Virtual Academy), technet, practice tests, forums etc....

Also MS currently released, for $200, an exam pack that gives you 4 cracks at the exam. Spend another $50 over the normal exam price. Take your exam, hope you pass the first time. BUT if you don't here is how I go about it:

My first time taking any exam is with the full knowledge that no matter how much book, technet articles, virtual labs you take there will always be something there that you didn't cover.

I go through the exam, answer what I am confident of, mark for review the items I'm going to go back and take more time on and finally when I'm at the point of being done and I have another 45 minutes I keep cycling through the questions, answer banks of multiple choice, scenario based questions and commit it to short term memory. Soon as I'm out the door I'm on my phone recording my mental notes.

Go study that stuff. Rinse repeat.

Like many other seasoned Windows Server Guys I've specialized. I've never missed a question regarding Storage Spaces, iSCSI, SOFS, Hyper-V, AD Sites, Replication, DFS. I'm solid on GPO's but I try to spend as little time there as possible :-)

I don't do AD RMS, FRS, NAP to name a few. Just not in my wheelhouse and other Dev-Admins handle that.

Then there are items like DC isolation and Managed DNS integration that will never appear on the tests that I have down cold.

Desparately needing a competent editor - many, many errors.

This book was required for a course I took at Pierce College, otherwise I would not have wasted my money on it. For a text that is over two years from original publication date the number of errata is saddening. It is as if the publisher simply merged several different drafts of the text into a final document and then sent it directly to the presses without any proof-reading whatsoever. The text explaining each server role/feature is often muddled and incomplete. The bright-point is that the step-by-step instructions are 99% correct.

Also, based on information provided by the publisher, you would think that purchasing a new copy of this book would include a MOAC Access Code for the online lab portion of the course. IT DOES NOT! The only way to obtain MOAC Access Codes is to purchase them directly from Wiley (or perhaps at your college bookstore).

Unless you need this text for a class, don't waste your money, you'll most likely have better understanding of the concepts and processes by searching the Internet for information.

Kindle version here: Content is there, but the cover photo and screenshots in the book don't display correct colors (see screen cap). This is on Kindle for Mac, PC, and Android. Other books in this series are good, though.
