About the Author
Dr. Anthony E. Schwaller has been working in the field of automotive technology and teaching about technology for 35 years. During his teaching career he received the "Distinguished Technology Educator Award" in 1990, the "Special Recognition Award" from ITEA in 1995, and was selected as the Technology Teacher Educator of the Year" in 1997 fro the Council for Technology Teacher Education. He also received the "Outstanding Research Award" in 2003 for his research on Modular Technology in the classroom. During his teaching career, he as worked for Allis Chalmers, General Motors, Eastern Illinois University, and St. Cloud State University where he is now professor and department head. He has written over 50 articles in professional journals, written ten textbook in the automotive technology and related fields, and has given more than 50 presentations on topics in the fields of automotive, transportation, energy technology, and instructional strategies.

A must to develop confidence to pass ASE the first time

This book alone can't pass ASE. But if you use it with test question oriented review book on the Market... no problems
Salute to the author no because he's a PHh. D. but he's making sure the book is published the way he wants it. (dedicated and determined to get the points across the readers) and bring home something. read on....

So why you should have this book with you when you are prepared for the ASE?
1. The diagrams . every diagrams , well!! Almost 99.9% diagrams in the book have more than one `captions' (short phrases that explain/indicate parts of the whole) inside the pictures. Name me a textbook that bother to do this.
2. if the technical terms, appear in the book. Those are the terms you should note down in your notebook and focus and study. The author carefully choose and explain not too many concepts but that is enough to get you the big picture what's going on.. for example. On TurboCharging.,,, he bring in the Exhaust Turbine and Intake compressor, therefore boost occur in the intake manifold... lastly and gentlely and he bring in another terms wastegate to complete the whole story. And that's not all. All the above talk is just theories.. In summary he bring in the real turbocharger construction, with captionSSSSS diagrams and real photo. To finally end the topics, he throw in intercooler to conclude that `the result is more power from the engine'.
3. babysitting you all the way from start to finish... well all textbook is supposed to teach and give you the best knowledge on the subject....Buy this book and you will totally agree with me..

skip the ` Problems, diagnosis , and service' of this book. You can't have the cake and eat it... ` the best of both world is only a dream' but read this book first and do the ASE questions and you will find it more meaningful and confidence to do so.. mark my words.

About the Author
Becky Wallace grew up in house full of stories with people who loved them. Her parents, both school teachers, only took her books away when it was very late at night—and usually pretended not to notice when she read by flashlight. She wrote and directed her first princess-related play in sixth grade, started her first “romance” novel in seventh, and penned a binder full of bad poetry in high school. She’s very grateful all those manuscripts have been lost. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Public Relations and worked in minor league baseball as a journalist and in sports marketing. She was lucky enough to find and marry a real-life prince charming. They have four little munchkins and are living out their own happily-ever-after in Houston, Texas.

The Skylighter is non-stop action, but you really need a re-read of The Storyspinner to enjoy it to the fullest.

Plot: The Skylighter picks up right where The Storyspinner ended. Do you remember what happened? I barely did. From there, The Skylighter picks up speed and we're introduced more into the Keepers involvement with politics in Santiago. This book was very much The Keepers novel which was very interesting and at times emotional, but yet I felt that more of this storyline should have been introduced in The Storyspinner.

Like The Storyspinner, The Skylighter is told from many perspectives, I believe there are six perspectives in this one. I can't emphasize how important it is to re-read The Storyspinner. I think that if I had re-read The Storyspinner right before diving into this book that I would have rated this one higher. Wallace has the talent of dropping little cliffhangers at the each of chapter and giving the reader just enough information to keep you interested.

Characters: Here's a confession, I forgot a good handful of characters from this series. This added an extra layer of frustration for me during The Skylighter because I remembered the characters being my favorite aspect of The Storyspinner. After a few hundred pages, I was able to place characters to their storyline, but it took a really long time.

But, you may ask, where is the romance? It is there and it is everything that you want for Rafi and Johanna. They had plenty of swoon-worthy scenes, but most importantly, they were able to explore the consequences of their relationship. I always enjoy when characters can look outside themselves to see what implications their actions have.

In addition to our leading lady and her beau, I was really impressed by Dom's growth. In The Storyspinner, he was the "fun" brother whose sole purpose was to flirt with a girl or two. In Rafi's absence, he learns and grows quickly and I lived for his chapters.

Worldbuilding: The Storyspinner took place mostly in Santiago - Rafi's domain, but the sky is the limit in The Skylighter. We explore other dukedoms and how the political climate in each land affects Rafi and his people.

I always love how some fantasy books borrow from cultures that really exist, predominately they are European or Asian cultures. In these series, the lands closely resemble Brazil. It's so unique and Wallace's dedication to her world is astounding.

If you love a strong heroine

The Skylighter by Becky Wallace is the sequel to The Storyspinner, a duology set in The Keepers’ Chronicles series.If you love a strong heroine, a non-triangle romance, magic, and a well-developed plot, this book (and series) is for you.

At the end of The Storyspinner, the author left her readers in a dreaded awe state. I’m not going to spoil the first book, but I’m just going to tell you, there are some mouth-dropping moments and you will immediately want to read the second book.

The Skylighter picks up with the same routine of weaving between different character perspectives. I really liked that each chapter is a different character’s perspective, because it exceptionally drives the plot and smoothly carries the reader through moments of much awaited kissage scenes; ruthless, but carefully articulated war tactics; and more importantly spies, twists, and sacrifices that I didn’t even see coming. WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO TO ME, Becky?

As I read The Skylighter, I honestly saw each scene as a strategic puzzle piece that connects and interlocks Johanna’s, the main heroine, past to her present and future. I found the world building to be very reminiscent of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust, in that the characters are not only connected to their heritage, but also to the land and the treasured magic that surrounds them. More importantly, the idea of choice is critically analyzed among each character, which definitely helped the story progress. For example, it gave the minor characters, like Dom, Jacaré, Pira, and Leão, an extra boost of importance and drive in a story that is mainly centered on Johanna and Rafi. I loved how Wallace took each minor character and threw them into dreadful challenges that tested their perseverance and willpower, which definitely brought them to life on the page.

The scenes between Johanna and Rafi are gripping, fiery, and swoonworthy. Additionally, as I read The Skylighter, I was really happy how Dom, Rafi’s roguish, young brother, unfolded as a character. Throughout the novel, Dom takes initiative to help his family and Johanna’s cause by making dire, unselfish choices. Overall, all of the characters, even the minor ones, each deal with a conflict that is emotionally binding and/or physically demanding. In the end, their choices dynamically change them, which I think makes the story captivating and extraordinary.

Oh, and the ending! SO PERFECT! I think Wallace’s readers are going to enjoy the calculated decisions that each of the characters make and how the book ends.

Pharmacy School Rotations Lifesaver

I ordered this for my pharmacy school rotations to have on hand for those tough ID questions and dosing. This fits perfectly in my white coat pocket and even has colored pages for the charts of spectrum of coverage (different from older edition). The print also seems slightly blurred than the previous edition, although still clearly legible. Would recommend for rotations for sure!

Great item for any pharmacy/medical student

Great item for any pharmacy/medical student! I used this during a hospital rotation - it saved me when I found out the Wifi was spotty and the online version could not be accessed there. I recommend familiarizing yourself with this book before you whip it out and try to be an antibiotic queen though. There is a ton of information packed in one little space that is not entirely easy to just flip to. I still give it 5 stars because the item itself is great - it is hard to categorize so much information and Sanford is great at doing so.

The best antimicrobial reference for everyday clinical use

This book is essential when dealing with patients who have numerous allergies, and the typical antibiotics are not available to use. Labs only test for a limited number of antibiotic sensitivities, and this book gives me practical information to solve everyday challenges. My only complaint is that the print is SO SMALL IT IS NEARLY UNREADABLE. Being in my late 50s, and even using reading glasses, I struggle to read the charts and print. They should print it in a larger font.

Loved this latest historical romantic suspense!

Loved this latest historical romantic suspense! I have been waiting for this third book in the Secret trilogy and it was so worth the wait! I love trilogies where the characters you love from other books show up again and it was so fun to see my favorites from Passionate Secrets and Unraveling Secrets make appearances. I love marriage of convenience stories and Lucas was a total swoon-worthy hero. I adored Moira and her determination to help. This one had it all: steamy romance, a hot hero with secrets to hide, and suspense. Great read- I loved it!!

I’m shattered it’s over . . .

Well, I’ve been in love with this series from the start, and I’m so sad it’s the end. So sad.

Lucas Stanby, the new Earl of Berkmond, has been in Brazil, trying to live with his ailment—an aura reading ability. But now he must return to England to square away his new responsibilities as earl. Awaiting him is his childhood love, Moira Dorsey. They’ve known each other almost all their lives, but when Lucas had an accident while at university, which gave him his aura reading skills, he’d thought he was too much trouble to deal with and rejected Moira, thinking it was better for her.

All those years Moira had secretly been in love with him, and soon enough they have to meet again, to which Lucas eventually has a business arrangement for her. She accepts. (Can you tell I’m trying very hard to not give away any spoilers? :) I hope I’m not sounding too vague.) They must spend a lot more time together, which means they both fall hopelessly back in love with each other. But what can either of them do with their love?

I loved reading more about Lucas, since his aura reading ability was quite severe and my heart squeezed for him throughout this book. I liked Moira too; she seemed sweet and loyal.

Although I was impatient to find out how this book ended and how the characters were to overcome an evil scientist, which it did so brilliantly, I was so sad when I finished. May have to reread it!

90% Is Good

I enjoyed the first 90% of this book. The plot is a bit different and you have to suspend your disbelief to accept the WMD premise of the villainous plot but that's okay - at least it was creative. It moved at a good pace and the main characters were both sympathetic, intelligent, likable and not hysterical or whiny. At the 90% point however the heroine does something incredibly stupid which is actually out of character with her previous behavior. She is a smart woman who does something dumb to create the climactic confrontation and the circumstance for the hero to realize how much he loves her. The conflict could have been created without making the heroine stupid. I really don't like authors making women do dumb things to show how "feisty" she is and so the heroes can rescue them. This is the third book in a three book series but you don't have to read the first two to understand it. There is plenty to fill in the back story of the heroes two friends and their shared experience at the heart of the all the stories.

Mediocre Quality of Writing

This textbook provides an overall glimpse of the problems faced by those living throughout the world today. This is really not the greatest book to use, the author writes as if he were writing a term paper or thesis as opposed to a textbook. Unfortunately, many of the issues and problems he simply describes and then moves on instead of providing the reader with some answers or even thoughts and ideas on the topics.

Excellent piece of history

By the time Dickens made his first trip to the U.S., he had already achieved extraordinary fame, having completed The Pickwick Papers, Nicholas Nickleby, The Old Curiosity Shop, and Barnaby Rudge. He was 30, and at the peak of his energy, if not yet at the height of his literary powers.

American Notes has a few passages that qualify as some of Dickens's very best. It's worth reading just for his account of the Atlantic passage, as the combination of humor, terror, and blunt-trauma reality of sailing across the Atlantic in a wooden ship is one of the finest pieces of nautical writing ever done.

American Notes is exactly what the title suggests: a compilation of disconnected observations that are loosely tied together by what is ostensibly a fact finding mission to learn about progressive institutions such as prisons and homes for the handicapped. These jottings come to fruition in a full blown novel when Dickens writes Martin Chuzzlewit.

By itself, American Notes is a brilliant journal of how the U.S. appeared to a liberal Englishman in the middle of the 19th Century. Dickens's comments on slavery, on the lives of African-Americans in New York, on the prairie, and on spitting are as interesting and occasionally funny to read today as they must have been 160 years ago. The best thing about American Notes is that you can buy it as part of the 200+ Works of Charles Dickens collection for your Kindle, and sample as much or as little of it as strikes your fancy.

Dickens and the Unvarnished America of 1842

This is Charles Dickens' unvarnished view of America in 1842 when our Revolution was less than 70 years old. For six months he toured the northeastern states, venturing as far west as Cincinnati and south to Richmond, while collecting observations of American folkways that he lampooned in typical Dickens fashion. His descriptions of Washington D.C. and its lawmakers should not be missed and are prescient of what would be Mark Twain's satiric sense. Referencing Washington's street design of boulevards and avenues Dickens related that it was often referred to as the "City of Magnificent Distances", but Dickens thought "City of Magnificent Intentions" might be a better descriptor - perhaps still a figurative portrayal for our time.
Dickens pulls no punches in his account of a country mired in the slavery controversy between Free States and Slave States, and additionally describes the dismal situation in American prisons and asylums. For me it was most difficult to assimilate the Slavery chapter which included American newspaper clippings of slave sales and "Runaway Slave" classifieds - truly a sad report on the pre-Civil War United States.
Reading this as an historical document I strongly recommend the Kindle version so you can utilize the e-dictionary and Internet as you experience Dickens vivid command of the English language in this remarkable journey.

Comparing America to England in 1850's

One needs to get accustomed to the English and Charles Dickens speech of the 1850's. I found it eye opening of American cities and their beginnings, and of Charles Dickens' opinion of places, compared to England. The boat and train rides would have been tough to endure, The atrocities he saw of the Black Slaves, and his sympathies toward them was, as always to me, appalling. He saw so much in his travels, some were very humorous, but his descriptions were very vivid.

Don't Send Flowers...

What do you do when you’re rich, your daughter has been kidnapped, and you live in a city on the gulf coast of Mexico? You can’t go to the police or the army, because they may actually be the kidnappers. Anyway, they’ll milk you for cash, regardless of whether they lift a finger to help. You can’t ask any of the 3 gangs that control the region, because if you ask the wrong one, you’ve just made yourself a target to them. And you can’t trust your personal security staff, because they may have facilitated the kidnapping by selling their inside knowledge of your activities.

Martín Solares’ excellent novel, No Manden Flores, takes place in an unnamed city in Southern Tamaulipas that has been devastated by gang wars and corruption. It’s a place where you can’t go out for dinner, because the restaurants close in the evenings due to the gang violence. It’s a place where you can’t get medical assistance after a beating because the medical staff deserts the clinic in fear that the gangsters will come to finish the job. And if you take the wrong bus, you might find yourself hijacked and pressed into slave labor in a criminal compound guarded by a virtual army of thugs.

The answer to the kidnapping question is that you hire a smart, street-wise detective, a former cop who solved a high-profile murder case a few years ago. And you hope to heck he doesn’t cross paths with the city’s police chief who framed a suspect to collect the reward for that murder case – and has been trying to kill your detective ever since.

The focus of the book is divided equally between the detective and the chief of police, and the irrational, apocalyptic challenges they both face in accomplishing their radically opposite goals and intentions. The author treats us to an abrupt surprise with the structure of the book, which led one reviewer to describe it as 2 books. I’m not convinced. Despite the richly drawn characters and tight plotting, it seems to me that the book is not about the detective and the police chief, or about the kidnapping, as much as it is about the time and place in which the story is set.

The book’s title happens to be the same title as a famous article by author Jorge Ibargüengoitia, written as a bittersweet remembrance of his mother at the time of her passing. I read the book as a commentary on the direction of the gulf Coast, and Mexico itself. Don’t Send Flowers is a stern warning… and a great book.

I was very upset when I received my package, I specifically bought a new copy so I would have a NEW book, when I received it the book itself looked worse than some of my old books. The front and back cover had been bent up as well as some of the pages.
